I was hoping that years later, you had looked up Francesco and he was alive. ….but how had his life evolved? I hoped for one of those happy endings but know that realistically, he had probably continued to live and die in that little village…hope that at least he kept playing his drums. 🥁
I guess I never wanted to “ruin” the memory I have of those days, had I found out something bad or unpleasant. But yes, I do wonder myself what happened to him. Thanks for reading.
Great story Silvio! Enjoyed every word of it. And spot-on insight, building on the indeed trite and insufficient advice, life is indeed a "continuous series of junctions where we have to make a choice".
Also made me think of asking, any contemporary Italian bands you recommend?
Thank you, Oscar! You know, I don’t particularly follow Italian contemporary bands, but from what I occasionally hear there’s nothing really interesting. I’ll ask my kids, maybe they can recommend something. My “heroes” were Pino Daniele, Lucio Dalla, Francesco De Gregori, to name a few. From some time ago.
I meant now, as in, after reading this. He seems like a somewhat curious entity who'll subtly enrich your life to the point where you want to write about him later. Those people are my favorites
Got it. Well, he was like that forty years ago. Who knows what he's like now. Who knows if he still exists, or got prematurely vacuumed into nothingness.

These 3 already sound awesome and sufficient to get me started, thank you Silvio!
...a million fire emojis to this entire piece...and a three hour long drum solo to fill the space after...
Thank you, CansaFis! We never get tired of long drum solos. :)
I loved this little vignette on Francesco! I need a Francesco in my life now (although I'd wish him an happier outlook on life perhaps)
Thank you, Jane. Why do you say you need a Francesco in your life now?

kind of need to know what happened with Francesco now...
Me too! Thanks for reading, Anna.
Knowing those places, each time it’s like being there with you and your friends. Great story, Silvio.
Thank you, Martino. Right! You got to know those places a little. I remember.
I loved reading this, Silvio!
Thank you, Nic! Good to see you back around here. :)
bocato di cardinale, this story!
Thanks for reading, Van. "now I need to read Norwegian Wood" -- who doesn't? It's such a beautiful novel. :)
