Beautiful, I particularly like the description of the intermittent darkness on the train. I think that nicely fits with the theme of the story, the way people flit in and out of our lives, how they suddenly disappear. Subtle symmetry.

Thank you, Clancy! Interesting perspective, which I hadn't considered. Love it.

If this is fiction, I adore it. If it is fact. Whoa!!!! What a life you live, Silvio.

So many gems, but this sticks!!! "but for the most part people talked. It was nineteen eighty-eight."

Thank you so much, Karena! These are pieces of autofiction, as it's called, that I'm trying to experiment with. So they are personal stories, but some things are real and other things fictitious. At the end of the day, though, it doesn't really matter which is which.

...wowzers...like half romance, half ghost story, half knowing yourself exploration....i had a job selling car ads once and my favorite part of it was whenever the folks on the other end of my call tried to flirt or go further...the drudgery of asking if bobby wanted to post ads for all his boats met by some lonely susan or reggie all alone in colorado looking for love talk with a stranger...i was 19 but pretended to be 53...this was so good Silvio...what a memory...what a mystery...

Thank you, CansaFis! And thanks for sharing your car ads sales story. It really is a composite universe out there.

Oh my!!! This is stunning Silvio. Almost haunting. I’m left with a sense that Laura was an apparition, a manifestation of the conflict between a mind uncertain of its desire to connect and a heart’s longing.

And this scene is quite beautiful. I can almost see it in Lars Von Trier or Wenders film:

Every time we stopped to collect more people, a flood of light poured in from the station for a few minutes. It felt like resurfacing from underwater to breathe all the air there is to take. Then dark again.

Thank you, Kimberly! Laura is a real person, though her name is different. She came into my life a long time ago. I have no idea where she is now; she was like a shooting star. Some elements of the story are clearly fictitious, but you're absolutely right in saying that she was 'a manifestation of the conflict between a mind uncertain of its desire to connect and a heart’s longing.' That's perfectly put and spot on! I'm glad you liked that scene and humbled to see it written about next to those huge names!

Hauntingly told story. Timing is sometimes everything, isn’t it? The train scene was intriguing and beautiful, captured the way that encounters while traveling are almost a dream state, some sort of interstitial experience.

Yes, precisely. I totally agree on the timing idea and yes, I love to develop a story in "moments of transit". People let their thoughts surface on their faces, as if floating in an in-between state, towards something "more normal" upon arrival. Thanks for reading, Stephanie!

Thank you so much, Van! These are such kind and thoughtful words. I’m really glad you like it. And it’s amazing how sometimes different themes tie together involuntarily, almost magically.
