I love Mr. Magoo! This connected really well with me.

"This isn't about being reckless or careless, it doesn’t mean that we should get to the top of the Empire State Building and jump down, certain that we’ll fly. It's about navigating life with an open heart. About acknowledging that, sometimes, our lack of perfect vision can lead us to unexpected and delightful places we wouldn't have discovered otherwise." *chef's kiss*

Grazie mille! One more great topic we'll have to talk about when we get together! :)

This goes in line with your constant theme of identity (and keeping it small), don't you think Silvio? And I do think you have more MisterMagooism in you than you give yourself credit, you've always struck me as someone that has followed his heart in the big arc of your life, you're obviously better judge than me, but I admire how you've crafted an unusual path, following your intuitions and reacting to situations yourself, rather than from the imposed society rules. That's something I admire from you, many artists and different people, and from Mr Magoo now that you've pointed it out haha great piece!

Oscar! Thank you so much, my friend, for always opening my eyes to ancillary ideas or considerations that I hadn't thought about. You're right, it is in line with the theme of identity (so dear to me, as you know). Glad you can see some MisterMagooism in me from the outside. I don't know about that. But it's certainly something I strive to embrace, and if you can see some of it yourself (that you've gotten to know me for the last year), I'm happy. :)

Silvio I love that you wrote about this! Ever since you first made the reference to Mr Magoo in conversation, the idea has stuck with me. I even pulled out a YouTube clip to watch with my sister and we marveled at his luck in a new way. I love this philosophy, MisterMagooism. I want to embody it more myself. You really articulated it so well and also how it’s difficult to just turn on. Greta piece!

Thank you, Michelle! So glad it resonates, and that you and your sister went to check out Mr Magoo. It is indeed, to me, the best way to live a free and happy life, if you can pull it off. Not easy, though. :)

Beautiful essay, Silvio.

I have cemented childhood memories of watching cartoons like The Flintstones and Bugs Bunny. I still get a kick out of watching old clips. I remember watching Bugs Bunny on YouTube in my university dorm, trying to destress with some childhood joy.

I’ve thought a lot about trusting the flow of events in life. Magooism sounds similar to Nietzsche‘s idea of Amor Fati - trusting whatever happens, messy as it looks, is necessary. Affirming life, rather than resisting it.

Joseph Campbell was once asked if he has faith. And he replied “I don’t need to have faith. I have experience.”

Like you, I’d love to be more like Mr. Magoo in my life. It’s not natural.

Yet to Campbell’s wisdom, I look back at my life and can’t help see the beautiful throughline in the chaos.

Thank you, Tommy, for these interesting references and reflections. I've always thought you have the wisdom and clarity of someone much older than you are. I've understood much later in life that if I'm able to abandon myself to what Fate has in store for me, and try to play it to my advantage, instead of fighting to warp existence to my will, I can live a more spontaneous and natural life and consequently be content and at peace with it.

As your brother from the same era, this not only brought a huge smile to my face, remembering my own delight with the series, but I also found your Magoo-metaphor brilliant and inspiring. What a lovely way to considering softening one's focus and meeting life with trust. "It's about navigating life with an open heart. About acknowledging that, sometimes, our lack of perfect vision can lead us to unexpected and delightful places we wouldn't have discovered otherwise."

Haha Rick! I knew you were someone who'd remember first hand about Mr. Magoo. Glad it brought a smile to your face and resonated. The focus/unfocus idea is indeed an interesting one, isn't it. Sometimes happiness is just a matter of what type of glasses you decide to wear, or not wear at all. Thank you, my friend. :)

I love this Silvio. I was a Mr Magoo fan as well. “Flow” is the ultimate state to find ourselves in. Not the easiest to arrive at as you know. Mr Magoo has embraced Amor Fati better than Nietzsche ever did. I’m going to think of how Mr Magoo would handle my today while walking the streets of Lisbon. Thanks for a great morning read. 🍨

Thank you, Stan. Indeed, Nietzsche's Amor Fati is something close to MisterMagooism, thanks for pointing that out. Hope you have a great time in Lisbon!
