Fellow synesthete here, but for me colors have sound and some sounds evoke colors. I've met a few along the way in life but have yet to see someone write so intimately about their own experience with it. A beautiful reminder in a few years I'll have to check in with my son and see if he experiences it all too. Well done Silvio
Thank you so much, Steven. Being able to associate sounds and colors is something really cool, I wonder whether that helped you in playing (or writing) music. Thanks for your beautiful words and yes, you should set a reminder to check in with him in due course. I've waited so long just because I always thought that everybody had this. I was wrong. It's a nice thing to have, I think. Maybe useless but nice.
As a musician, photographer, writer, YouTuber... really anywhere I get to be creative, having cross over effects in my senses enriches the creation experience. Harnessing those sensations and deliberately infusing them into my work makes the creation process more exciting, and the end result multiple fruits from a single labor.
I’m glad you experience this Silvio so that I can also experience it through your writing. Such a fun and whimsical look at synthesia. I love that you talked to your kids and learned that they got your dominant gene!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful quirk of yours. We all see the world differently in our small, quirky ways. I also enjoyed reading the intimate moments with your kids, your siblings, and father.
Gosh, your description of the White Album is just perfect. Every few months, I go on a Beatles binge and relive the magic again and again. I think you've restarted the cycle :-)
Rachael! Thank you so much! These words mean so much to me, coming from the sensitive and attentive person that you are. As for the Beatles binge, I do that too periodically. It's good for you! (Better than broccoli :))
Loved learning there are different kinds of synesthesia, and both your salary and childhood story will now be tied, maybe not to colors/numbers haha, but to seeing different layers of what is more immediate. Beautiful musings as usual, Silvio!
The boy with the incredible brain is a documentary that is about this. It’s the story of a man who sees shapes and colours in place of numbers and is able to perform massively complex calculations in his mind. It’s fascinating and worth watching. Maybe you’ve already seen it, but here’s a link just in case.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5I4QqT1-WoU
"It was a very nice salary. I just didn’t like its color -- it was too dark and gloomy" -- there, right then and there, you pulled me in to that moment into your life where both the serious and not-so-serious happen. Also, have a blessed Lenten season!

Yes! So nice. :)
I have the opposite - aphantasia. I can't visualize anything. Interesting how we all experience the world in different ways!
Indeed, Chris. I didn’t know that the opposite “condition” also had a name. Interesting.

Thank you so much, Michelle! I will keep exploring that, now that I know what it is. And maybe my kids will help me out. :)

Thank you so much, Oscar! Glad you liked it. I’ve been discovering a lot ever since I found out what it is.

I haven't, Rick. I will watch it later today. That sounds impressive! Thank you!
Here's my question: is the reverse also true? That is: does the color yellow recall 7 to you?
Yes! It does. Not as immediate as the other way around though.
You are the weird one.
And I loved the essay. I wish I could see numbers as colours.
Thank you, Karena! It's the nicest useless thing to have lol.

Thank you, Helen! So happy I could pull you into that middle land of mine. :)
