Haha! Silvio, what an amazing story, what an amazing ending. Love the whole absurd and meta way you handled this, and laughed so much at my cameo here. Broccoli and pasta, and broccoli pasta just acquired a new meaning for me 🤣 Congrats on 52 straight weeks, really impressive!!

For the record, I disagree with you. Broccoli tastes good :)

I'm reading at a cafe right now. I audibly laugh. If only they knew this sweet memory you shared with us. Sooo good!

In Spanish (maybe only Colombia) we call this "tragame tierra" stories (loosely translates to the earth swallowing you). Stories so embarrassing you just want to disappear to the center of the Earth. This may be one of my favorite "tragame tierra" stories.

LOL Camilo! The Tragame Tierra thing is awesome, I didn't know about it. Thanks for teaching it to me. And yes, this is definitely a tragame tierra kind of story. So embarassing. Yet, so funny. So glad it made you laugh. Thank you!

Congrats on publishing 52 essays in a row 🥳🥳🥳

I loved this story so much, I felt like I was with you the whole time, and the image of a young Silvio stuffing his face at the table of an unsuspecting family is too too funny. Really enjoyed thi, great storytelling once again!

Thank you so much, Michelle! We've been in this journey together. So glad you liked the story and you felt like you were with me there (I could have used someone who'd give me the heads up there lol).

Gracious Swedes . . . and quite incredible that you were so inwardly absorbed you ate your entire dinner without realizing you were with strangers! Maybe that's the real original core of your vocation as a writer. BTW the greatest boxers in the world and other top athletes eat broccoli three times a day; treat it like salad (even when lightly steamed) and dress it with a bit of your favourite salad dressing :)

I know, right? I just didn't realize the context I was in was a completely different one haha. "Maybe that's the real original core of your vocation as a writer" -- interesting observation. That'll make me think for a while. I actually love broccoli, it's just that in the collective imagery it's viewed like a medicine. :)

Thank you, Martino. Yes, let's do a broccoli pasta contest. But here's the tricky question: do you put the anchovy in?

Apparently, I was kind of famous for my broccoli pasta when I lived in NYC, back in the day. I don't cook for people anymore lol.
