Your grandpa sounds like an amazing person Silvio, thank you for bringing us part of his life story, and how it was alongside you. Really enjoyed it. He also sounds to have had such an amazing humor, I loved the "They must have cooked it with fire" joke haha. I also loved this one was openly addressed to him. And as always, so many different and little things to poner when reading your essays...
I really, really like the Unsent Letters series. I write unsent letters to people in my life too, maybe eventually I'll decide that anonymous blogging is anonymous enough that I can just publish them.
"working your incandescent metal, in overalls and goggles." It is the best way to end, that line.
Thank you so much! You should definitely publish your unsent letters. I'd love to read them. I think something otherwise hidden about us comes out when writing these.
Just seeing the title "Unsent letters" makes my whole body relax. I know you are going to walk me into an intimate moment with real person. Despite your claim that you don't know how to provide a comprehensive description of someone, you seem always to focus on the just the right details to deliver the full picture of their spirit. "“I was supposed to trip on that myself,” you used to say after I’d fallen and injured myself. Or “They must have cooked it with fire,” when I’d burn my tongue with a hot soup." It was a more than a pleasure to meet your Grandpa.
Thank you so much, Rick! I know we're on the same page on this: telling more by telling less. In my case, it's kind of natural, as I wouldn't know how to do it otherwise. So glad you liked it and that I was able to get something across. :)
Dang it, Silvio. You always get those tears flowing. And thank you. This reminded me of my Grampa, “the strongest man in the world.” Thanks once again, for your beautiful words and artful story telling. ❤️

Thank you so much, Oscar. Yes, he was. I always try to summon his sense of humor when I'm a little down. :)

This is so beautiful Silvio! He must’ve been right next to you as you were writing this for him :)
Thank you so much, Elizabeth, for your nice words. Who knows, maybe. :)
